Khulna City BNP General Secretary and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Shafiqul Alam Tuhin joined party leaders and activists in repairing the waterlogged and badly damaged Shipyard Road in Khulna city through voluntary labour. The initiative was taken under the banner of the Khulna City BNP Disaster Management Committee as the road, one of the city's major thoroughfares, has become nearly impassable due to prolonged neglect, heavy rainfall, waterlogging and large potholes, causing severe suffering for thousands of commuters and vehicle operators.

## Community Initiative for Road Repair

Beginning around 11:30 am, Tuhin and a number of BNP leaders and activists entered the muddy, waterlogged road and laid bricks by hand to fill the potholes and create a temporary passage for vehicles and pedestrians. Party leaders from the metropolitan, thana and ward units, along with members of affiliated organisations, participated in the day-long voluntary effort. They brought bricks and filled the worst-affected sections of the road, making the route temporarily usable.

## Statements from BNP Leaders

Speaking on the occasion, Tuhin said thousands of people use the Shipyard Road every day, but it has remained in a hazardous condition for a long time. He said pregnant women, patients and school-going children were facing serious difficulties due to the muddy and waterlogged condition of the road.

Tuhin emphasized their commitment to serving the people, stating, "Following the direction of our leader Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, our politics is centred on public service. Today's initiative is not for publicity, it is our moral responsibility. We will continue such humanitarian efforts until a permanent solution to the road's condition is ensured."

## Significance and Future Actions

The voluntary repair effort by BNP leaders highlights the pressing need for infrastructure maintenance in Khulna city. The Shipyard Road, being a major thoroughfare, plays a critical role in the daily commute of residents. The temporary fix provided by the BNP leaders offers immediate relief but underscores the urgency for a permanent solution. The community's involvement in such initiatives reflects a broader demand for improved urban infrastructure and services.

Moving forward, it is essential for local authorities to address the root causes of the road's deterioration. This includes better drainage systems, regular maintenance, and timely repairs. The BNP's humanitarian efforts serve as a reminder of the importance of community engagement and proactive problem-solving in urban development.
