Five college students from Bangladesh have won an international science award organized by CERN and will visit research facilities in Germany. The students, hailing from different colleges across the country, formed a team named Polaris to participate in the 'Beamline for Schools' competition. Their project focused on a new scintillating material for radiotherapy.

The competition, now in its 13th edition, saw participation from nearly 4,500 students across 89 countries, with 712 project proposals submitted. The Bangladeshi team, along with four other winning teams from India, Turkey, the UK, and the USA, will visit research facilities in Germany if all goes well in August.

However, the team faces challenges as four of its members are scheduled to take their higher secondary exams next month. The team is also seeking sponsorship to visit CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, as the trip would be at their own expense.
