Prime Minister's Labour and Employment Adviser Mahdi Amin has expressed the government's firm determination to create a sustainable, safe, and dignified working environment by generating opportunities for quality employment in Bangladesh. Speaking at a symposium organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) titled 'Future of Work: Decent Work and Social Protection for All,' Mahdi emphasized the government's goals of enhancing workforce skills, institutionalizing the economy, and ensuring the economic empowerment of women.

## Commitment to Quality Employment

Mahdi, who also serves as the Prime Minister's Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser, highlighted the government's efforts to ensure that workers can lead dignified lives with fair rights and benefits. He stressed the importance of maintaining good relations between employers and workers and fostering a stable, industry-friendly environment to prevent factory shutdowns.

## Empowering Women and Youth

Regarding women's economic contributions, Mahdi mentioned groundbreaking initiatives such as the 'Family Card' programme, designed to strengthen women's participation and empowerment, particularly in the readymade garment sector. Additionally, specific policies are being implemented to ensure women-friendly workplaces and appropriate daycare facilities.

Mahdi also emphasized the need to utilize the demographic dividend of the young population. Multifaceted plans are underway to develop young people into skilled human resources and responsible citizens. At the same time, effective measures are being taken to protect workers' rights by resolving various complexities in the labour laws of the past.

## Reopening Factories and Attracting Investment

Referring to the reopening of closed factories and efforts to attract new investment despite the energy crisis caused by instability in the Middle East, Mahdi said that at the direct instructions of the prime minister, it had been possible to resume operations at closed factories and attract new investments. He also noted that workers' dues, which were previously delayed, have been ensured to be paid on time during the last two Eid festivals following effective measures taken by the government.
