State Minister for Health Dr M A Muhit today inaugurated the state-of-the-art, women-led 'Jamirta Vision Centre' at Jamirta in Sirajganj's Shahjadpur to ensure quality and modern eye care services at the doorsteps of people in remote areas. This initiative marks a significant step towards expanding modern eye care services to rural communities across Bangladesh.

## Technology at the Heart

Through the use of technology, residents in the remote areas of Shahjadpur will now be able to receive telemedicine consultations and eye care services directly from specialist doctors based in cities such as Dhaka or New York while staying at home. The centre utilizes Orbis's globally recognised 'Cybersight' platform and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide real-time consultations, vision testing, spectacle dispensing, and screening services for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

## Community Impact and Future Plans

Muhit urged people to dispel various social misconceptions surrounding the use of spectacles and called on students to serve as 'Vision Ambassadors' by bringing eye patients from their localities to the centre. The centre has been established under the 'Future Vision Centre' project with support from Orbis International and funding from the Amoud Foundation. It will be operated by Professor M A Matin BNSB Base Eye Hospital.

A total of 25 environment-friendly, women-led 'Green Vision Centres' are being established across the country. These centres will operate on solar power and create employment opportunities for women at the grassroots level. Addressing the function, Muhit also called for replacing the old political culture with a 'new political arrangement' based on honesty, accountability and public service. He said elected representatives should devote themselves full-time to serving the people during their tenure.

Among others, Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabrina Sharmin and Orbis International Country Director Dr Munir Ahmed also spoke at the programme.
