# Khulna Authorities Step Up Measures to Tackle Dengue Outbreak

In Khulna, the rising number of dengue cases has prompted urgent action from local authorities and organizations. Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and affiliated bodies, alongside various volunteer organizations, are collaborating to curb the dengue outbreak.

KCC has intensified mosquito-control operations, including spraying insecticides and conducting mobile court drives. The city’s 31 wards have been divided into three zones based on infection and larval density, with ten wards designated as red zones due to higher infection rates.

To enhance mosquito control, KCC has appointed five additional spray workers in each ward. Cleaners are spraying larvicides in drains, stagnant water, and internal drainage systems of residential premises. KCC Chief Health Officer Dr. Sharif Shamiul Islam confirmed that adequate stocks of paracetamol and saline are available.

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju announced that the leave of all officials and employees in the sanitation and health departments has been canceled to intensify dengue-control activities. He urged city residents to keep their surroundings clean to prevent mosquito breeding.

Meanwhile, Khulna City BNP and its affiliated organizations have launched mosquito-control campaigns, distributed leaflets, and provided free blood-group matching and healthcare initiatives. KDA Chairman Shafiqul Alam Mona announced plans to establish 50-bed central service centers in affected police station areas, equipped with doctors, health assistants, and necessary facilities.

The Department of Health in Khulna division reported 258 new dengue patients admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours, with 224 in government hospitals and 34 in private hospitals. The death toll remains at 21. Since January 1, 6,849 dengue patients have been reported in the division, with 5,793 recovered and 876 currently undergoing treatment.

Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) has recorded 1,630 dengue patients, and overcrowding has led to patients receiving treatment in corridors and verandas. The Khulna Civil Surgeon’s Office has prepared dengue isolation units in every upazila health complex, ensuring adequate supplies of essential medicines and test kits.
