Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Health Affairs Dr SM Ziauddin Haider today announced that the nursing education curriculum in Bangladesh will be modernized to align with global standards, with the aim of generating employment in the health sector. The government targets creating nearly 1 crore jobs within the next 3 to 5 years, with a significant portion coming from nursing, midwifery, and medical technology roles.

## Curriculum Overhaul

Currently, a three-year professional Diploma course in Nursing Science & Midwifery is offered, but it is not recognized in most countries. To address this, the government plans to introduce a four-year bachelor's degree program by transforming the existing diploma course through a bridging program.

## Infrastructure and Training

The government will establish high-tech 'skills labs' and'simulation labs' and install modern audio-visual classrooms in 73 government nursing colleges and institutes nationwide. Additionally, 'master trainers' from the Philippines will be brought in to train nursing faculty and teachers.

## Quality Assurance

Private nursing and medical colleges will be given a certain period to improve their education quality. Those failing to meet the standards within the stipulated time will be disqualified from conferring degrees and enrolling new students.

## Mega Project

To enhance nursing education quality, the government is undertaking a nearly US$150 million project with financial and technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This project aims to modernize the nursing education in 73 government nursing colleges and institutes.
