Professor Akhtar Hossain of the Department of Civil Engineering has been appointed as the new Pro-Vice Chancellor (Pro-VC) of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET). The appointment was announced by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, with the approval of the Chancellor of the university. Prof Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain will serve as Pro-VC for four years or until his retirement, whichever comes first.

## Long-awaited appointment

The last Pro-VC at RUET, Prof Dr. Mortuza Ali, completed his term on October 11, 2014. Since then, the position had remained vacant for nearly 12 years. The new appointment is expected to bring momentum to education, research, and administrative coordination at the university.

## Experienced academic

Prof Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain is a senior teacher in the Department of Civil Engineering at RUET. He has extensive experience in teaching, research, and administrative activities at the university.
