The government has appointed Prof. Tofazzel Hossain as the new vice-chancellor of Meherpur University, replacing Prof. Sheikh Bakhtiar Uddin. Prof. Tofazzel Hossain, a professor at the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at Islamic University in Kushtia, has been appointed for a four-year term.

The appointment was announced in a notification from the Ministry of Education on Sunday. The previous vice-chancellor, Prof. Sheikh Bakhtiar Uddin, has been relieved of his duties and allowed to rejoin his original position at Chittagong University. He had been serving as vice-chancellor of Meherpur University since December 2, 2024.
