Jahangirnagar University (JU) is likely to form a committee to assess the feasibility of establishing a divisional admission test centre in Rangpur. This decision comes after students from the northern region expressed concern over being excluded from the initial plan.

## Pro-VC Announcement

JU Pro-VC (Academic) Professor Dr Md Shamsul Alam informed that the committee would be formed soon after discussions with the Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan. "The matter is now under process, and I hope a team will also visit Rangpur," he said.

## Purpose and Benefits

The proposed centre is expected to ease the burden on admission seekers from the northern districts by reducing travel and accommodation costs. This move aims to make the admission process more accessible for students in the region.

## Current Initiatives

Earlier today, the university formed four sub-committees to collect information on divisional-level admission test management from the University of Chittagong, University of Rajshahi, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, and Khulna University. These sub-committees have been asked to submit their reports within 15 working days.

## Significance for Students

Establishing a divisional admission test centre in Rangpur would significantly benefit students from the northern districts, providing them with a local testing facility and reducing the financial and logistical challenges associated with travelling to Dhaka or other major cities.

## Next Steps

The formation of the committee and the subsequent visit to Rangpur will be crucial steps in determining the viability of the proposed centre. The university's decision will likely be influenced by the reports submitted by the sub-committees and the feedback from the local community.
