# Government Launches Education Loans for Medical-Dental Students and Overseas Higher Education

The government has taken initiatives to make medical and dental education more accessible by introducing education loans and a special bank loan program for meritorious students pursuing higher education abroad. These initiatives were announced by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury during the presentation of the budget proposal for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday. The proposed budget size is set at 9 lakh 38 thousand crore Taka, with a revenue target of 6 lakh 95 thousand crore Taka. The Finance Minister stated that these programs aim to ensure that no meritorious student's opportunity for higher education is hindered due to financial constraints. As part of the initiative to create skilled manpower in the health sector, five modern training centers will be established using unused infrastructure under the Directorate of Health Education in various parts of the country. These centers will be used for training medical and dental students and intern doctors. The Finance Minister also mentioned that mandatory rural residential training (RRST) will be conducted as part of community medicine education to provide future doctors with real-life experience in rural healthcare systems. The government hopes that this will enhance students' understanding of rural health needs, humanitarian values, and service mentality. Additionally, expatriate workers will continue to receive loans of up to 10 lakh Taka on easy terms through the Expatriate Welfare Bank, and the scope of this program will be expanded. Initiatives will also be taken to establish 'Bangladesh Support Centers' in the embassies of labor market-dependent countries to assist Bangladeshis working abroad. These centers will help rescue workers who are imprisoned, victims of abuse, or deceived, find new employment, and provide legal assistance in disputes with employers. Furthermore, various programs will be implemented for the rehabilitation and social security of returning expatriates. The government also announced initiatives to simplify the process of bringing the bodies of deceased Bangladeshi workers abroad back to the country. The government informed that the immigration process has already been fully digitized through the Overseas Employment Platform (OEP).
