# Mahdi's Vision: Strengthening Bangladesh-China Ties Through Education

In a high-level discussion in Guangzhou, Prime Minister's Adviser and Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin emphasized the need to make education a central pillar in fostering people-to-people connectivity between Bangladesh and China. Speaking at the event titled 'China-Bangladesh Education Cooperation,' Mahdi underscored the historic and deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, which began under the leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and was further strengthened during the tenure of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The present government, he noted, is committed to giving special priority to diplomatic and trade relations with China.

Mahdi outlined the government's plans for radical reforms in the education sector, as per its election manifesto. These reforms include prioritizing technical and vocational education, making it compulsory, and introducing third-language education, including Mandarin, to equip young Bangladeshis with the skills needed in the international job market. He also highlighted the government's goal of making education universal and employment-oriented, with a focus on increasing scholarships for Bangladeshi students and undertaking joint research initiatives.

Drawing on China's experience, Mahdi proposed developing modern laboratory facilities in Bangladesh by collaborating with China's leading polytechnic and technical education institutions. He urged Chinese universities and industrial enterprises to invest in Bangladesh and called for regular exchanges of teachers, researchers, and students between the two countries. Additionally, he stressed the need for close cooperation to ensure the welfare of Bangladeshi students currently studying in China.

The event saw the participation of Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Mohammad Daud Mia, senior representatives of leading Chinese universities and educational institutions, and officials of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh. The meeting also formally launched the China-Bangladesh Industrial and Education Integration International Service Center, aimed at promoting closer cooperation between the two countries in education and industry.

The emphasis on education as a means to strengthen ties between Bangladesh and China reflects a broader strategy to enhance bilateral relations through people-to-people connectivity. By focusing on education, the two nations aim to build a foundation for future collaboration in various sectors, ultimately benefiting the citizens of both countries.
