The Dhaka University (DU) Syndicate, the highest decision-making body of the university, has decided to review all appointments of teachers, officers, and employees made since the Awami League government assumed power in 2009 up to June 30, 2024. This decision was taken at a Syndicate meeting held on Tuesday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam.

## Formation of Probe Committees

A probe committee has been formed to review the appointments, with Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam as its convener and the deans of all faculties as members. Another committee, headed by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane as convener, was set up to scrutinize the proper utilization of research funds under the Higher Education Quality and Enhancement Project (HEQEP), funded by the World Bank and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

## Action Against Teachers and Research Investigation

The Syndicate also decided to take measures against teachers who opposed students during the July Mass Uprising. A four-member special team comprising the Vice-Chancellor, the two Pro-Vice Chancellors, and Syndicate Member Professor Morshed Hasan Khan has been formed to identify teachers who took positions against students during the uprising. This team will review a list of 125 teachers submitted by the platform 'Anti-Fascist Teachers.' If any accused teacher is affiliated with any teachers' organization, the activities of that organization will be suspended.

## Administrative and Teaching Duties Relieved

At the meeting, it was decided to send the recommendation for the permanent expulsion of Professor Sadeka Halim to the University Tribunal. In addition, following various allegations, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Muhit, Professor Abu Shara Shamsur Rouf, Professor Dr. Mohammad Bahauddin, Dr. Rafiq Shahriar, Professor Dr. Afroza Shelley, and Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam have been relieved of their administrative and teaching duties.
