# Bobby Hajjaj Announces Plan to Harmonise Bangla and English Medium Curricula

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today announced that necessary harmonisation would be brought in the curricula of Bangla and English medium education to elevate Bangladesh's education system to global standards. Speaking as the chief guest at the ‘School Leaders Conference 2026’ organised by Oxford AQA International Qualifications, Hajjaj emphasised the importance of ensuring a common minimum standard for students' basic knowledge, skills, and learning outcomes, irrespective of the medium of their study.

Hajjaj outlined a coordinated initiative involving all government and private educational institutions on curriculum, infrastructure, teachers’ training, and the use of technology. He stressed that the goal is not merely to follow the best practices of the world but to set a standard that other countries might follow. The government is prepared to invest the necessary time, money, and effort to achieve this ambitious goal.

The state minister highlighted that whether a student studies in English, Bangla medium, or any other stream, there must be a common standard for basic knowledge and skills. Although there may be differences between good and comparatively less good institutions, Hajjaj believes there should not be major disparities in curriculum and the basic standard of education.

Hajjaj underlined the need for quick reforms in the fundamentals of primary education, including setting clear minimum standards for school hours, effective learning hours, classroom sizes, necessary infrastructure, and trained teachers. He stressed that no teacher should be given charge of a classroom without proper training. The government also plans to emphasise activity-based learning and learning through play in the future of primary education.

The state minister further noted the importance of learning from the existing experience of English medium schools, particularly their effective use of Learning Management Systems (LMS). Hajjaj assured that while formulating the new curriculum, the government would take everyone's experience and opinion into account to ensure no one feels left out. The government aims to bring all educational institutions onto a level playing field through coordinated initiatives in curriculum, infrastructure, teacher training, and technology.
