The government of Bangladesh has initiated a plan to reschedule the country’s public examinations, moving the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations to January and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations to June from the next academic year. Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced this plan in parliament today. The objective is to bring greater consistency between the beginning of the academic year and the schedule of public examinations, while reducing the loss of valuable academic time for students. The government is also working towards holding public examinations even earlier in the academic year as part of broader education reforms.

The announcement was made by the Education Minister while replying to a starred question from Lutfur Rahman, a member of the treasury bench, in the House. The day’s sitting was chaired by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal.

Dr. Milon emphasized that the move aims to gradually align the academic calendar with international standards. By scheduling examinations earlier in the year, the government hopes to minimize disruptions and ensure that students have adequate time to prepare for their exams.

This reform is expected to bring significant benefits to the education system in Bangladesh, ensuring that students are better prepared and that the academic year is more efficiently utilized. The government is committed to implementing these changes in a phased manner to ensure a smooth transition.
