The government has directed all technical and madrasa educational institutions across Bangladesh to organize various programmes on July 9 to observe World Environment Day as part of the national celebration. This directive was issued by the Directorate of Technical Education in line with initiatives by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Department of Environment.

## Programmes Aligned with National Initiatives

According to the order, the programmes will align with the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Department of Environment. The Directorate has requested all engineering colleges, polytechnic institutes, technical schools and colleges, and other institutions under its jurisdiction to implement these programmes.

## Theme and Activities

The theme of World Environment Day 2026, set by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is 'Climate Change: Today's Action, Tomorrow's Security.' In line with this theme, all technical and madrasa educational institutions have been asked to organize awareness programmes, discussions, and other activities to promote environmental consciousness among students and the wider community.

## Previous Directives and Implementation

Earlier, on July 1, the Technical and Madrasa Education Division under the Ministry of Education issued an order requesting the Directorate of Technical Education, the Directorate of Madrasa Education, and the relevant education boards to ensure the implementation of these programmes at the field level.
