# Government to Procure 15,000 Dunnage Units for Food Warehouses

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has recommended policy approval for the direct procurement of 15,000 pieces of dunnage to be used in food warehouses across Bangladesh. The decision was made at the 27th meeting of the committee, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The procurement of dunnage, which are materials used to keep sacks of food grains elevated from the floor, is aimed at protecting stored food from moisture and other damage. The proposal is being processed under Section 68(1) of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, citing state emergency needs and public interest. This procurement will be above the price ceiling specified under Rule 99(2) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025.

Dunnage plays a crucial role in food storage by ensuring that grains remain dry and undamaged, which is vital for maintaining the quality and safety of stored food. The Directorate General of Food will oversee the use of these materials in various warehouses across the country.

In addition to the dunnage procurement, the committee also recommended policy approval for integrating several digital platforms into Bangladesh's immigration management system. This proposal, submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, involves the integration of the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS), Passenger Name Record (PNR), e-VISA, e-TA, and a Sovereign Data Analytics Platform.

The integration of these digital platforms is expected to significantly strengthen Bangladesh's immigration management. By enabling the existing system to work seamlessly with passenger information, visa, and travel authorization data, as well as a sovereign data analytics platform, the system will become more efficient and secure.

This move towards digitalization in immigration management is a step towards modernizing the country's administrative processes, enhancing security, and improving the overall efficiency of immigration services. The integration is being proposed under Section 68(1) and (2) of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, citing national security requirements.
