# CCGP Approves Import of 60,000 MT Fertilizers to Bolster Bangladesh's Agricultural Sector

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has approved proposals for the import and procurement of 60,000 metric tonnes (MT) of fertilizer. This decision aims to ensure adequate supplies for Bangladesh's agricultural sector and meet the national demand during the 2025-26 fiscal year. The approvals were made at the 28th meeting of the CCGP for 2026, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

## Details of the Approvals

Among the approved proposals, the Ministry of Agriculture received clearance to import 30,000 MT of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) fertilizer under a state-level agreement between the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and Morocco's OCP Nutricrops. This import, representing the 21st lot (Optional-6th) under the existing agreement, will cost Taka 263.63 crore, with the per-tonne price fixed at US$713.

Additionally, the committee approved a proposal from the Ministry of Industries for the procurement of 30,000 MT of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Bangladesh. This procurement, the 16th lot for the 2025-26 fiscal year, will involve an expenditure of Taka 199.94 crore at a rate of US$540.75 per tonne.

## Impact on Agricultural Sector

Officials stated that the fertilizer imports would help maintain adequate stocks and ensure uninterrupted supply to farmers across the country. This move is crucial for supporting the agricultural sector, which is a significant contributor to Bangladesh's economy.

## Other Procurement Proposals

Besides the fertilizer-related decisions, the committee approved a total of 20 procurement proposals submitted by different ministries and divisions. Of the proposals placed before the meeting, 10 came from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, four from the Ministry of Commerce, and one each from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Road Transport and Highways Division, Ministry of Shipping, Energy and Mineral Resources Division, and Ministry of Industries.
