Bangladesh is in close coordination with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to avail approximately $775 million in support for four new projects aimed at enhancing the country's power and energy infrastructure, inclusive affordable housing, and education sectors. A senior official from the Economic Relations Division (ERD) confirmed that negotiations are underway to finalize the procedures for these proposed projects.

## Power and Energy Projects

One of the projects, the "Bangladesh: The Sustainable Energy Development and Empowering Communities in Chattogram Hill Tracts Project," has already completed loan negotiations for $175 million in ADB support. This project, located in the southeastern region of Bangladesh, aims to develop and modernize the power distribution system in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). Key activities include the construction of six new 33/11 KV substations and the upgradation of four existing substations.

## Housing and Education Initiatives

Additionally, loan negotiations for $100 million for the "Bangladesh: Inclusive Affordable Housing Finance Project" and $200 million for the "Strengthening of Distribution network for 13 Palli Bidyut Samities Surrounding Dhaka City" are expected to take place this month. The housing project focuses on providing affordable housing finance solutions for low- and middle-income households, with a particular emphasis on women. The energy project aims to modernize and strengthen distribution networks in rapidly industrializing areas surrounding Dhaka.

The ADB and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) are also set to provide $350 million to support a wide-ranging education reform program in Bangladesh. The "NextGen Education Programme" aims to improve learning outcomes, expand digital education, and strengthen institutional capacity. Of the total assistance, Bangladesh will receive a $300 million concessional loan from the ADB and a $50 million grant from the GPE.
