Kazi Shairul Hasan, a seasoned corporate professional with over four decades of experience in banking, financial services, industrial investment, telecommunications, and consumer goods, has been appointed as the new chairman of state-owned Islamic Bank. The appointment, effective immediately, follows the resignation of the previous chairman, Mohammad Ayub Miah, on March 16. Hasan, who began his career as a sales representative in 1978, has held leadership roles in multinational corporations, domestic corporate groups, and financial institutions. He holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Dhaka University and a postgraduate diploma in industrial management. His extensive experience includes roles at American Express Bank, Grameen Telecom, STS Group, and Eastern Bank, among others.

## Career Highlights

Hasan started his career in 1978 as a sales representative at Greenland Engineers and Tractors Company (GETCO), handling Caterpillar brand heavy machinery sales. He later joined Fisons (Bangladesh) Limited in 1979, where he spent nearly a decade in various roles within the consumer products division. In 1989, he joined American Express Bank, leading foreign currency services, card business, and travel services for nearly a decade. He served as managing director of Grameen Telecom in 2000, overseeing the 'Village Phone' program. Hasan also held CEO positions at STS Group and Angola-based Gollfret Holdings. He returned to Bangladesh in 2003, joining Eastern Bank as Senior Vice President, and later led retail banking at One Bank. In 2008, he joined Saudi-Bangladesh Industrial and Agricultural Investment Company (SABINCO) as Deputy Managing Director, later becoming Managing Director. He also served as a director at state-owned specialized bank BIDBL from December 2019 to February 2025.
