# Three Chattogram Businesses Fined Tk 170,000 for Selling Unhygienic, Expired Products

In a coordinated effort to ensure food safety, the National Consumer Rights Protection Department has fined three business establishments in Chattogram a total of Tk 170,000 for selling unhygienic and expired food items. The violations were discovered in the Agrabad and Mohra areas of the city.

The campaign, conducted jointly by the Chattogram Divisional and District Offices of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department in collaboration with Chattogram Metropolitan Police, targeted the WASA area of the city. The operation uncovered several serious infractions, including the preparation of food in unsanitary conditions, the storage of stale food, and the sale of expired food.

Handi Restaurant was fined Tk 100,000 for preparing food in an unsanitary environment and for the presence of cockroaches in the food. CP 5-Star Restaurant received a fine of Tk 20,000 for using burnt oil and for unsanitary food preparation. Zaman Restaurant was fined Tk 50,000 for selling old and stale food as well as for preparing food in unsanitary conditions.

The drive was led by Mohammad Faiz Ullah, Deputy Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, who was assisted by officials from the consumer rights department. The department has urged relevant institutions to comply with hygiene regulations when preparing and serving food.

The National Consumer Rights Protection Department has announced that regular market monitoring will continue to ensure food safety and protect consumer rights. All food businesses have been instructed to strictly follow hygiene standards in preparation and service.
