A team from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) named 'Team Bangladesh' has achieved the second runner-up position in the HSBC-HKU Global Business Case Challenge 2023. The team, consisting of Shakhawat Salim, Navid Abrar, Md. Ridwan Sakib Anjum, and Mohammad Faiyad Hossain, represented Bangladesh in the global competition held in Hong Kong.

The team qualified for the global competition after winning the HSBC Bangladesh and BRAC University-hosted Business Case Competition 2023 in April. The global competition, jointly organized by HSBC and the University of Hong Kong (HKU), is one of the top undergraduate business case competitions worldwide. This year, Australia's team emerged as the champion, Thailand secured the first runner-up position, and Bangladesh achieved the second runner-up spot.

Over 12,000 students from various countries participated in local-level competitions across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Twenty-four undergraduate teams were selected to compete in the HSBC-HKU Asia Pacific Business Case Challenge 2023 held in Hong Kong from June 1 to June 5.

This year's participating teams worked on four different business cases reflecting real challenges faced by organizations today. These included risk management in an investment firm due to over-reliance on the founder, sustaining Pop Mart's profitability after initial popularity, strategizing public awareness about stablecoins in Hong Kong, and planning the global transformation of an influencer-dependent fashion brand.

David Liao, Co-Chief Executive of HSBC Asia and the Middle East, stated that the program has provided opportunities for over one lakh students worldwide since 2008. He expressed delight in welcoming 24 teams from 20 markets in Asia and the Middle East this year.

Over the past 14 years, more than 70,000 students from various universities in Bangladesh have participated in the HSBC Business Case Competition, enhancing their business knowledge, critical thinking, leadership, and communication skills. Bangladesh first participated in the global competition in 2012. Since then, HSBC has sponsored and supported 48 students to represent the country in the HSBC-HKU Global Business Case Challenge in Hong Kong.

Mohammad Mahbub Ur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh, said, 'Securing a position among the world's best performers is a proud moment for all of us. This achievement is a testament to the exceptional capabilities and potential of our youth and underscores the importance of continuous investment in developing their real-world business skills.'
