Dr. Islam's distinguished career includes serving as Bangladesh's Defence Attaché in Washington, D.C., for which he was awarded the Legion of Merit by the United States. His academic credentials are equally impressive, with a PhD from the University of Dhaka focused on workers' skills assessment and development, alongside an MPhil, an MBA, and a Master's degree in Management Studies from Osmania University.

Before his appointment, Dr. Islam held significant academic positions, including Dean at the Bangladesh University of Professionals and Professor at the Central University of Science and Technology. He has also contributed to global peace by participating in several United Nations Peacekeeping missions.

BGMEA leaders are optimistic that Dr. Islam's background in diplomacy, strategic leadership, and workforce development will bolster the RMG sector's innovation, human resource skills, and global competitiveness. This leadership shift is particularly significant for Bangladesh, as the RMG industry is a cornerstone of the nation's economy, contributing significantly to GDP and employment. Dr. Islam's expertise is expected to help the industry adapt to evolving global trade dynamics and maintain its competitive edge.
