# Bangladesh Approves Import of 110,000 Tonnes of Fertilizers to Support Agriculture

The Bangladeshi government has given the green light to import a total of 110,000 tonnes of fertilizers from Belarus, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia. This decision, taken at the 43rd meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), aims to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential farm inputs for the country’s agricultural sector. The meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, reviewed 18 procurement proposals, approving three significant fertilizer imports.

Under the approved proposals, the Ministry of Agriculture will procure 30,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer from Belarus through local agent M/S Suphala Trading Corporation. The procurement will be at a rate of $398.97 per tonne. Additionally, the committee approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer from Morocco under a government-to-government agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), and OCP NUTRICROPS, S.A. This second lot under the agreement will cost around TK 439.86 crore at $889.33 per tonne.

The Ministry of Industries also received approval to import 40,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia. This fourth lot for the 2026-27 fiscal year will cost around TK 193.71 crore at $391.66 per MT. These imports are crucial for meeting the fertilizer requirements of Bangladesh’s agricultural sector, which relies heavily on timely and adequate fertilizer supply to maintain productivity and ensure food security.

The decision to import fertilizers is part of a broader strategy to support the agricultural sector, which is vital for the economy and food security in Bangladesh.
