In a significant operation, the District Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Cumilla seized around 300,000 pieces of yaba tablets, estimated to be worth Taka 15 crore in the local market. The seizure took place during an operation in the Jagurjhuli area of Sadar upazila along the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway. Two individuals have been detained in connection with the case.

The detainees have been identified as Faisal Hossain, 25, from Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar, and Aman Ullah, 35, the driver of the vehicle. The seized yaba tablets were discovered inside a suitcase in a luxury Toyota Prado. The tablets were wrapped in scotch tape, according to police reports.

Shamsul Alam Shah, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Cumilla District DB Police, confirmed that this is the largest yaba consignment seized in Cumilla to date. The DB team conducted the operation following a tip-off. They positioned themselves at noon in the Jagurjhuli area and stopped a white Prado travelling from Chattogram towards Dhaka for a search.

Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman stated that the two detainees are currently being interrogated. "After questioning them, we will be able to determine where the consignment came from and where it was being taken for distribution," he said.

Yaba, a highly addictive methamphetamine tablet, has become a significant concern in Bangladesh. The drug is often smuggled from neighboring countries and distributed across various regions. The recent seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the illicit drug trade.

The detection and seizure of such a large quantity of yaba tablets are crucial in the fight against drug trafficking. It not only disrupts the supply chain but also sends a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug trade. The operation underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing and coordinated efforts among law enforcement agencies.

For Bangladesh, the battle against drug trafficking is a critical component of maintaining public health and safety. The seizure in Cumilla is a testament to the dedication and vigilance of the police force in combating the illicit drug trade. As authorities continue their investigations, the public can hope for further successes in reducing the availability of dangerous substances like yaba.
