In a shocking development, the Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other agencies, has arrested two people for their alleged involvement in the murder of four members of the same family in Rangpur. The arrests were made following overnight raids in different areas of the city.

RpMP Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud disclosed the information during a press briefing, revealing that the bodies of the victims—Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty Bola, 50, their daughter Agami Chakraborty, 25, and son Priyam Chakraborty, 12—were found in a decomposed state at their residence in the Machhuapara area of Ward No 24 under Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station.

## The Gruesome Discovery

The bodies were discovered after relatives found the house locked for several days and informed the police. With the assistance of the fire service, police broke the lock and entered the house, where they found the decomposed bodies. The bodies were subsequently sent to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The arrestees, Mugdha Das, 23, and Siddhartha Das, 19, both from the Machhuapara area, confessed to the murders. According to their confessions, they killed the family members after Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel, a retired teacher, confronted them for consuming Yaba tablets on the roof of his house.

## The Motive and the Crime

In their confessions, the suspects admitted to killing the family members one by one by wrapping towels around their necks. They stated that they committed the murders because the teacher had tried to stop them from consuming Yaba tablets on the roof of their house. After the murders, they took a bath, ate cucumbers and dates, and consumed more Yaba tablets.

To mislead the investigation, they scattered furniture, burned a gold bracelet, and soaked two mobile phones in water mixed with detergent powder to destroy fingerprints. They left the house during Friday prayers when the road was empty.

Gopinath Chakraborty, the elder brother of the deceased teacher, filed a murder case with Rangpur Kotwali Metropolitan Police Station in connection with the incident.
