Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has emphasized that preventing misinformation is a top responsibility of the government, especially during national disasters. He likened information management to 'oxygen', highlighting its critical role in maintaining public trust and safety. During an interaction with District Information Officers (DIOs), Swapon instructed them to provide an accurate picture of the government's disaster response, maintain direct communication with the public, and offer daily updates on their activities.

## Critical Role of Accurate Information

Swapon compared the dissemination of accurate information to the essential nature of oxygen, stating that misinformation can severely disrupt society, much like polluted air endangers life. He stressed the importance of identifying and preventing false information, aiming to make people more aware and ensure the ministry's work achieves its purpose.

## Enhanced Digital Presence

Recognizing the shift towards digital platforms, Swapon urged the ministry to move beyond traditional methods of communication and establish a robust presence on digital platforms. He emphasized the need for objective, data-driven information and statistics in reports, including accurate figures on flooded villages, stranded people, and relief distribution.

## Special Emergency Team

To ensure continuous communication with the public, Swapon instructed the Mass Communication Department Director General to form a special emergency team comprising information officers from flood-affected districts. This team will stay connected with the ministry and headquarters round the clock, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination.

## Public Outreach and Awareness

Swapon highlighted the importance of public outreach during disasters. Regular daily press briefings will be held to update the public on the disaster situation and government relief operations. The ministry will also operate a coordinated control room to facilitate communication. District information offices have been actively conducting public awareness campaigns and loudspeaker announcements to encourage people at risk of landslides to move to shelters and prevent waterborne diseases.
