The nearly nine-foot-long and around 90-kilogram tigress was caught in a snare trap set by deer poachers near Shorkir Khal under the Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans East Forest Division on January 3. It was rescued the following day in critical condition and taken to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Khulna for treatment.

## Rehabilitation and Release

After medical care and observation, an expert team confirmed that the tigress was capable of hunting and surviving in the wild, leading to its release today at the Andharmanik Ecotourism Centre area of the Sundarbans. The release was conducted by State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam.

## Significance and Conservation Efforts

The release of the tigress is a significant event for wildlife conservation in Bangladesh. The Sundarbans, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, and conservation efforts are crucial to protect this endangered species. The successful rehabilitation and release of the tigress demonstrate the effectiveness of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation programs.

## Ongoing Threats and Future Actions

Despite conservation efforts, the Royal Bengal Tiger faces ongoing threats from poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict. Continued efforts are needed to protect these majestic animals and their habitat. The release of the tigress is a positive step, but more work is required to ensure the long-term survival of the species in the wild.

## Community and Ecotourism

The release of the tigress also highlights the importance of community involvement and ecotourism in conservation efforts. The Andharmanik Ecotourism Centre, where the tigress was released, plays a vital role in promoting sustainable tourism and raising awareness about the importance of protecting the Sundarbans and its wildlife.
