A court has ordered Mahbub Hasan, arrested for buying stolen copper wire from the Prime Minister's Office, to be sent to jail. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin issued the order on Friday following a police request. Investigation Officer and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit Sub-Inspector (SI) Injamul Hossain requested Mahbub's remand, which was granted after a hearing.

The case alleges that between May 22 and June 1, approximately 110 meters of copper wire, valued at around Tk 1.05 lakh, was stolen from the roof of the old Secretariat buildings 1, 2, and 3. BTCL Junior Assistant Manager (Technical) Mo. Faisal Kabir filed a theft case at Shahbag Police Station. During the investigation, outsourcing worker Ranjan Chandra (26) and scrap dealer Rezakul Islam were arrested on June 4. The court granted them a five-day remand the next day.

Police stated that Ranjan confessed to stealing the wire and selling the extracted copper to a scrap shop named 'Messers Bhai Bhai Traders' located in front of Dhaka University's Ekosh Hall. Based on Ranjan's information, Mahbub Hasan was arrested as the primary buyer of the stolen copper. The Investigation Officer's request noted that although Mahbub admitted to buying the stolen wire during interrogation, he did not provide information on its current location. Keeping him in jail is necessary to recover the stolen government property.
