Addressing the 51st founding anniversary programme of the PGR at Dhaka Cantonment, Tarique Rahman highlighted the need for a balanced security strategy. He noted that while security at large public gatherings and state functions is often complicated, the PGR must ensure that the people do not feel isolated from the head of government.

## Modernizing Security Forces

The Prime Minister also discussed the government's plans to further modernize specialized forces, including the PGR and the Special Security Force (SSF), alongside the armed forces. He expressed confidence in the armed forces, stating that with patriotism, strict discipline, and professionalism, the country's sovereignty will remain secure.

## Historical and Current Significance of PGR

Tarique Rahman referred to the history of the PGR, which was initially established on July 5, 1975, as the 'President’s Bodyguard Unit' and later renamed the 'President Guard Regiment' by then Army Chief Major General Ziaur Rahman. The Prime Minister recalled the martyrdom of his father, President Ziaur Rahman, and the PGR members who were martyred during the tragic event.

Addressing the current socio-economic and geopolitical situation, the Prime Minister highlighted the multidimensional security challenges posed by cyber warfare, electronic warfare, drone warfare, and information warfare. He stressed the need for constant preparation through modern and up-to-date training for all security forces.
