KHULNA - Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona today underscored Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's special emphasis on environmental protection and planned urbanization across the country. Speaking at separate tree plantation programmes in Khulna, Mona highlighted that tree plantation is not just a ceremonial or government initiative, but a national movement to safeguard the environment.

Mona mentioned that the KDA is actively supporting the implementation of the Prime Minister's ambitious programme to plant 250 million trees over the next five years. He called on people from all walks of life to participate in tree plantation efforts to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change and reduce rising temperatures in the Khulna region.

Mona was inaugurating tree plantation drives organized by the Khulna city unit of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal along the Khulna-Koia Road and by Ward No. 22 Jubo Dal at Abu Sufian Madrasa premises in Notun Bazar this afternoon.

Leaders and activists of the Krishak Dal attended the roadside plantation programme, while Khulna city Jubo Dal Convener Abdul Aziz Sumon and Member Secretary Robiul Islam Rubel, among others, were present at the second programme.

A special prayer was offered at the end of the event, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of former President Ziaur Rahman, BirUttam, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, as well as peace, prosperity and welfare for the country and the people of the Khulna region.
