Three female students of a local madrasa in Narsingdi drowned after being swept away by a strong current while bathing in the Kakon River on Wednesday noon. The incident occurred in Borokanda village under Chanderkandi Union in Raipura upazila. The deceased were identified as Tabia, 13, daughter of Shamim Mia, and Ayesha and Jannat, both 9, daughters of Rubel Mia, all residents of Borokanda village. They were students of the Gausia Noor-e-Madina Women's Madrasa.

According to police and local sources, six children went to bathe in the Kakon River, a distributary of the Meghna River, near their homes. They were caught in a strong current and began to drown. Local residents, hearing their cries for help, rushed to the spot and rescued all six children, taking them to a nearby hospital. However, Tabia, Ayesha, and Jannat were declared dead on arrival. The identities of the three injured children were not immediately available.

Md. Mujibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station, confirmed the incident. The river, known for its strong currents, poses a significant risk to those unaware of its dangers. This tragic event underscores the need for increased safety measures and awareness in such areas.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers of unsupervised bathing in rivers. In Bangladesh, rivers play a crucial role in daily life, but they also present significant risks, especially during the monsoon season when currents can be particularly strong. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety precautions and community vigilance.
