Advocate Rezeka Sultana Fency, Member of Parliament from reserved women's seat-36, called for widespread tree planting to protect ecological balance and mitigate climate change in Bangladesh. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Divisional Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair-2026 in Rangpur, Fency highlighted the importance of trees in providing oxygen, preserving biodiversity, and maintaining environmental balance.

Fency emphasized that organizing tree fairs is not enough; saplings purchased must be planted and cared for to ensure they grow. She suggested that turning tree planting into a social movement requires the participation of students, young people, public representatives, and institutions from all sectors. The District Administration and the Social Forestry Department organized the event, featuring 65 stalls by nurseries and forest- and agriculture-based organizations.

The event, presided over by Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin, included several dignitaries such as Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Abdul Motaleb Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Joynal Abedin, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension for Rangpur region Md Shirajul Islam, and Divisional Forest Officer Md Nurul Islam. The fair concluded with the distribution of saplings of different species as prizes to the winners of various competitions.

The tree fair aimed to encourage a broader commitment to environmental sustainability, stressing that tree planting is crucial for building a livable future in Bangladesh. The initiative reflects a growing awareness of the need to combat climate change through ecological restoration.
