Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser M. Humayun Kabir today pledged to ensure justice for journalist ATM Turab, who was killed in police firing during the student-led anti-discrimination protests in Sylhet on July 19, 2024. Speaking at a memorial meeting for Turab at the Sylhet Press Club, Kabir said he would urge the Prime Minister and the Law Minister to prioritize the case.

"I will personally speak to the Prime Minister within the next two to three days so that those involved in Turab's killing, as well as other similar heinous crimes, are arrested quickly and brought to justice," he said. Describing Turab as a source of inspiration, Humayun Kabir pledged to hold all responsible parties accountable.

He called on both the government and the opposition to raise the issue of Turab's murder in parliament. Referring to the July uprising, he said the country had reached its present stage through the sacrifices of around 1,500 people, adding that Turab's blood was among those shed during the movement in Sylhet.

The commitment to justice for Turab underscores the broader significance of addressing past grievances and ensuring accountability in Bangladesh. As the nation continues to grapple with the aftermath of the 2024 protests, the pursuit of justice for Turab serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for transparency and human rights.
