Bangladesh is set to see a normalization of its gas supply within the next two to three days, according to Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood. The announcement comes after the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) resumed operations following a technical fault that disrupted the supply earlier. The minister assured that gas transmission will gradually improve, alleviating the pressure on the gas network.

The technical issue with the FSRU led to a temporary gas shortage, which in turn affected electricity generation, resulting in load shedding in various parts of the country. Several power plants were forced to shut down due to the shortage, causing widespread disruptions. In response to complaints about unusually high electricity bills, the minister urged consumers to submit their bills for verification.

Mahmood explained that the authorities had previously asked consumers to submit their bills for verification, but many did not follow the instructions. He also noted that electricity tariffs were revised for the June-July billing period. The minister held a meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi to discuss bilateral issues of mutual interest between the two neighboring countries.

This routine meeting, as described by the minister, focused on areas of mutual interest between Bangladesh and India. Given the close proximity and shared interests, such discussions are crucial for maintaining strong diplomatic relations. The resumption of gas supply is expected to have a significant positive impact on the country's energy sector and overall economic stability.

The return to normal gas supply operations is a critical development for Bangladesh, ensuring that power plants can operate efficiently and reduce the reliance on alternative energy sources. This development will help stabilize electricity generation, preventing further load shedding and ensuring a more reliable power supply across the nation.
