# Over 50 Dead, 80,000 Homes Damaged in Chattogram Floods and Landslides

The death toll from persistent heavy rain, flooding and landslides in Chattogram division has risen to 50, while nearly 80,000 homes and hundreds of educational institutions and transport links have been damaged, according to the Chattogram Divisional Commissioner's Office.

## Widespread Impact

Flooding has affected 408 unions and municipalities across 11 districts in the division. About 34,723 people are now staying in flood shelters across the region.

## Worst-Hit Areas

Chattogram district is the worst affected in terms of administrative areas, with 176 unions and municipalities inundated. It is followed by Cox's Bazar (74), Rangamati (42), Khagrachhari (41) and Bandarban (36).

## Casualty Figures

Cox's Bazar has recorded the highest death toll, with 28 fatalities. Chattogram reported 13 deaths, followed by Bandarban with six and Rangamati with three. One person each remains missing in Cox's Bazar and Rangamati.

## Extensive Damage

The floods have damaged around 80,000 houses, 344 educational institutions, 3,840 kilometres of roads and 339 bridges and culverts. Cox's Bazar suffered the heaviest housing damage, with 48,063 homes affected. Bandarban reported damage to 15,330 houses, Chattogram 14,281, Khagrachhari 1,040 and Rangamati 473.

## Displaced Population

Chattogram district also has the largest number of displaced people, with 22,600 people taking shelter in 670 centres. Elsewhere, 6,250 people are staying in 200 shelters in Bandarban, 3,903 in 53 shelters in Rangamati, 1,580 in 618 shelters in Cox's Bazar and 581 in 150 shelters in Khagrachhari.

## Relief Efforts

As part of the ongoing relief operation, authorities have distributed 923 metric tonnes of rice, 7,281 packets of dry food and Tk 12.7 million in cash assistance across the division.
