In Feni's Fulgazi, a 2-month-old child was allegedly beaten to death with a wooden stick. The child's father, Mohammad Sultan, has been arrested by the police. The incident occurred on Thursday night in a rented house near Fulgazi market.

The deceased child's name is Mohammad Junayed. His father, Mohammad Sultan (30), is from Kakoirgarha Union in Durgapur Upazila of Netrokona. He resides in Fulgazi with his wife Runa Akter for work. Runa Akter accused her husband of beating the child to death with a wooden stick. However, Sultan claims the child fell from his arms while he was playing with him.

Sultan works as a day laborer. Junayed, their only child, was born two months ago. Runa Akter alleged that her husband has been addicted to drugs for a long time and often physically and mentally abused her. On Thursday night, after returning home from work, Sultan sent her to buy a drink. Upon returning, she found their son unconscious.

Runa Akter stated, 'When I returned home, I found my son unresponsive. When I tried to take him to the hospital, Sultan stopped me. After much effort, I took him to the hospital at night, where the doctors declared him dead. Sultan would often get angry if the child cried.'

After his arrest, Sultan gave a statement to the police. He claimed he was playing with the child when he fell from his arms. The child showed no signs of life afterward.

Dr. Tanvir Mahmud from the emergency department of Feni 250 Bed General Hospital said the child had died before being brought to the hospital. Initial observations showed severe head injuries. The exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy report.

Fulgazi Thana's Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Mizanur Rahman said the police recovered the body and sent it to Feni General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The child's father has been arrested and is being interrogated. Preparations are underway to file a case. Further legal action will be taken after receiving the autopsy report.
