# Unspent Canal Project Funds Totaling Taka 61,20,647 Returned to Feni State Treasury

The Daganbhuiyan Upazila Administration in Feni has returned Taka 61,20,647 in unspent funds to the state treasury after successfully completing the re-excavation of two canals while maintaining the required quality standards. The administration completed the re-excavation of the Rajapur-Birli Canal in Rajapur union and the Silonia Canal in Jaylaskar union, ensuring significant savings in government expenditure without compromising the quality of the work.

## Project Details and Benefits

According to the Upazila Administration, the project has improved the navigability of the canals and enhanced irrigation facilities, creating new opportunities for local farmers to cultivate multiple crops annually. As part of the environmental conservation initiative, 400 saplings were planted along the Birli Canal and another 203 saplings along the Silonia Canal to help preserve ecological balance and protect water resources.

The Rajapur Canal, measuring one kilometer, and the two-kilometer-long Silonia Canal were re-excavated under a project that began on May 17 and concluded on June 30. In total, the government allocated Taka over 1.3 crore for the three-kilometer canal re-excavation project. Actual expenditures amounted to Taka over 41.87 lakh, while Taka 61,20,647 remained unspent and was subsequently deposited into the state treasury in accordance with government financial regulations.

## Supervision and Impact

The project was closely supervised by Daganbhuiyan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Shahidul Islam and Project Implementation Officer Md. Robiul Hossain. Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md. Kamruzzaman said the completion of the Birli and Silonia canal projects had already eased waterlogging in Rajapur, Jaylaskar, and surrounding areas. He emphasized that restoring connecting canals would provide a permanent solution to the region's drainage problems.

UNO Md. Shahidul Islam said the project demonstrated that government funds could be utilized efficiently while ensuring high-quality implementation. He expressed hope that local farmers would continue to benefit from the improved irrigation and drainage facilities for years to come.
