Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu MP has urged every citizen to pledge to plant at least one tree to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable ecological future. Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 10-day-long 'Lalmonirhat District Tree Fair- 2026' at the Lalmonirhat Collectorate grounds, he highlighted the critical role of trees in maintaining environmental balance and ensuring long-term welfare for individuals, society, and future generations.

## Importance of Tree Planting

Dulu emphasized that trees are essential for environmental conservation and play a crucial role in sustaining ecological balance. He noted that the dream of greening the country can become a reality if each citizen plants at least one tree.

## Addressing Environmental Challenges

The minister expressed concern over the ignorance and irresponsible behavior of some people towards environmental conservation. He mentioned that trees planted for beautification purposes are often destroyed due to carelessness, negligence, or destructive activities. Terming such activities as a threat to the environment, he stressed the need for protective measures to safeguard newly planted trees.

## Government Initiatives and Future Plans

Dulu announced initiatives to distribute saplings produced by private nursery owners among students of various educational institutions in the district. He assured the allocation of space for the nursery owners' association in Lalmonirhat district town. The minister called on government and private institutions, voluntary organizations, and the general public to collaborate in implementing the government's massive 25-crore tree plantation programme over five years across the country.

## Tree Fair and Public Participation

The 10-day district tree fair features 30 stalls displaying and selling saplings of various species of forest, fruit, and medicinal plants. The fair is open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm every day. Prominent figures, including Lalmonirhat Zilla Parishad Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Superintendent of Police Md Asaduzzaman, and others, attended the event.
