Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has initiated the installation of automated traffic signals at 50 major intersections to alleviate severe traffic congestion in the city. DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the modern automated traffic signal system at Shahbagh intersection, emphasizing the need for a technology-driven solution to traffic woes. The system will be expanded to 22 more intersections under DSCC soon.

The traffic system, introduced as part of a special initiative by the Prime Minister with technical support from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), aims to make vehicular movement more systematic and efficient. Initially, the system has been set up at eight key intersections, including Banglamotor, Hotel InterContinental, Minto Road, and Shahbagh.

Salam highlighted that the modern automated traffic signal system at Shahbagh intersection will serve as a pilot operation. He urged citizens to stop indiscriminate roadside parking and illegal parking practices, and to adhere to traffic laws and signals. Drivers were advised to follow traffic warning signs, road markings, zebra crossings, and designated lanes.

The DSCC Administrator also called for the removal of obstructions and makeshift shops at intersections. He expressed hope that the digitalization of traffic management would save working hours for millions of city residents and reduce the professional hardship of traffic police.

Salam assured strict enforcement of traffic laws to sustain the benefits of modern technology and sought everyone's cooperation in transforming Dhaka into a dynamic and modern smart city. The inauguration was attended by DSCC Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md Mahabubur Rahman Talukder, Chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman, BUET Professor Dr Moazzem Hossain, Professor Dr Muhammad Hadiuzzaman, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Mohammad Anisur Rahman, among others.
