Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan announced the formation of a probe committee to investigate the collapse of a wall at Mirpur College in the capital's Mirpur-2 area. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, left two people dead and seven others injured. The committee will comprise representatives from RAJUK, the Public Works Department (PWD), and the DNCC.

Khan made the announcement while speaking to reporters after visiting the site of the tragic incident. He stated that necessary legal action would be taken against those responsible once the investigation committee submits its report. "No death is desirable. I am deeply saddened by today's incident," he said.

Preliminary findings suggest that the wall, constructed in 2014, was not built using the required construction materials. Instead of a reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structure, the wall was built only with brick masonry, which could be one of the causes of the collapse. Khan said discussions would be held with the college authorities to ensure that the remaining walls are properly reinforced and made safe to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Replying to a question about those injured while collecting Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) products, the DNCC administrator said efforts would be made to provide them with financial assistance. He also said that, following the Prime Minister's directive, arrangements had been made to provide free treatment to the injured at hospitals. Local Member of Parliament Sanjida Islam Tulee, the Chief Engineer of Dhaka North City Corporation, and local political leaders were present during the visit to the accident site.

The incident underscores the need for stringent safety measures and regular inspections of infrastructure in educational institutions across Bangladesh to prevent such tragedies in the future.
