# DMP Magistrates Process Over 9,000 Criminal and Traffic Cases in July

Dhaka's law enforcement witnessed a significant boost in July as Special Metropolitan Magistrates of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) managed to dispose of 5,890 criminal cases and 3,417 traffic cases through summary trials. This surge in judicial activity aims to strengthen law enforcement and maintain public order in the capital.

## Criminal Cases Addressed in Multiple Divisions

DMP Law Officer Mohammad Ataul Haque highlighted that these criminal cases were processed across various divisions including Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh, and Uttara. The summary trials resulted in 10,437 accused being brought before the courts, with 6,861 of them being sentenced to imprisonment. The courts also imposed fines totaling Tk 2.346 million and confiscated and auctioned property valued at Tk 258,230.

## Traffic Enforcement and Special Drives

During July, the DMP, in collaboration with Special Metropolitan Magistrates, conducted 33 special drives to maintain law and order. In the realm of traffic enforcement, 1,340 cases were filed under the Road Transport Act, 2018, while 3,417 traffic cases were resolved, leading to the collection of Tk 802,700 in fines.

The DMP emphasized that the prompt disposal of cases through summary trials has significantly bolstered public confidence in the justice system and law enforcement. This efficiency in handling cases has enhanced deterrence against crime and contributed to improved law and order in Dhaka.
