# Defence Adviser Orders Implementation of 'One Rank One Pay' Policy for Retired Armed Forces

*Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam has directed the implementation of the ‘One Rank One Pay’ policy and establishment of Defence Colonies for retired armed forces personnel.*

The government has directed the implementation of the ‘One Rank One Pay’ (OROP) policy for retired personnel of the armed forces and the establishment of Defence Colonies to ensure their welfare and rehabilitation. Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam issued these directives during a visit to the Bangladesh Armed Forces Board (BAFB) headquarters in Kakrail. The OROP policy aims to provide equal pay for retired personnel of the same rank, regardless of their retirement date.

## One Rank One Pay Policy

Dr Shamsul Islam emphasized the importance of expediting the implementation of the OROP policy. He instructed authorities to strengthen Armed Forces Board offices in all districts, making them effective centers for retired personnel. The adviser also highlighted the need for integrated administrative and logistical planning to enhance their operational capacity.

## Establishment of Defence Colonies

In addition to the OROP policy, Dr Shamsul Islam announced plans to establish Defence Colonies for retired military personnel. Land has been earmarked for these colonies in Thakurgaon, Gaibandha, and Dinajpur districts, and officials have been instructed to begin implementation there. The colonies aim to provide sustainable rehabilitation for retired servicemen.

The defence adviser also stressed the importance of improving healthcare services for retired armed forces personnel and their families. He directed the expansion of medical store facilities in 61 districts to ensure better access to medicines, including life-saving drugs. Furthermore, he underscored the need for dignified funeral arrangements for retired servicemen, directing the Armed Forces Board to enhance its role in providing administrative and logistical support for funeral and last rites.

During the visit, Dr Shamsul Islam outlined a series of measures aimed at improving the welfare of retired armed forces personnel and their families. He was received by Defence Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin and Director General of the Bangladesh Armed Forces Board Brig Gen Mashrur Hossain Bhuiyan. BAFB officials and employees were also present.
