# Coast Guard Points to Forest Pirates as Suspects in Mongla Station Attack

The Coast Guard suspects forest pirates and their associates in the recent attack on their Harbaria station in Mongla's Joymoni area. This was stated by Captain Mohammad Mesbaul Islam, Zonal Commander of the Coast Guard Western Zone, during a press briefing on Friday. On June 11, a group of miscreants launched a sudden attack and vandalism on the Coast Guard station, injuring several Coast Guard members on duty.

The Coast Guard believes that the attack was due to their efforts to disrupt the supply of resources, weapons, and other aids to the pirates, making it difficult for them to carry out criminal activities. Two special operations, 'Operation Restore Peace in Sundarbans' and 'Operation Mangrove Shield,' are being conducted under the leadership of the Coast Guard to eliminate active forest and water pirates in the Sundarbans and ensure the safety of fishermen, honey collectors, and forest dwellers.

According to the Coast Guard, 39 pirates have been arrested and 41 hostages rescued alive in operations conducted since February 12. Additionally, firearms, ammunition, cocktails, telescopes, and walkie-talkies have been recovered. The Coast Guard's continuous operations, regular patrols, intelligence surveillance, and technology-based monitoring have significantly weakened the pirates' capabilities.
