Chattogram Metropolitan Police have successfully recovered 55 gold bangles that were stolen from a jewellery store in Chattogram city. The total weight of the recovered bangles amounts to 99 bhori 4 annas 5 ratti, equivalent to 1,158.33 grams. Six individuals, including the salesman of the shop, have been apprehended in connection with this case. Md. Sohel, assistant police commissioner (AC) of the zone, disclosed the information during a press conference held at the Panchlaish Police Station here this afternoon.

## Details of the Theft and Recovery

According to police reports, Romain Dey, aged 36, has been employed as a salesman at 'New Kanak Bahar Jewelers', located on the second floor of Mimi Supermarket, near Pravartak Mor in the city, for approximately 12 to 13 years. On August 14, a count of the shop's gold inventory revealed a shortfall of 53 bangles. Later, it was discovered that imitation bangles had been stored in seven boxes instead of the gold ones. In response to this incident, the shop owner, Biplob Basak, lodged a complaint with the Panchlaish Model Police Station. The total weight of the 53 missing gold bangles was approximately 927.500 grams, equivalent to 79.51 bhoris. The estimated worth of this gold amounts to Taka one crore 88 lakh 29 thousand 900.

## Arrests and Further Investigation

Romain Dey was arrested around 2 am on August 18 in the Faujdarhat Highway area of Sitakunda, following an operation that utilized information technology and intelligence during the investigation of the case. The police reported that during questioning, Romain Dey admitted to pawning the stolen gold bangles at various jewelry establishments. Specifically, 46 bangles were pawned to Shyamal Singh, the proprietor of 'Mordan Irani Jewelers' located on Miakhan Nagar Road in Baklia. Subsequently, Shyamal Singh was arrested in the Kanungopara area of Boalkhali on August 19. Based on the information he provided, seven gold bangles were retrieved from Mordan Irani Jewelers on Miakhan Nagar Road.

## Comprehensive Recovery Efforts

During his interrogation, Shyamal Singh disclosed that an additional 39 bangles were stored at various jewelry shops and pawnbrokers. Following the information he supplied, these bangles were recovered from several shops and pawnbrokers in the Kotwali, Baklia, and Chawkbazar areas. The police confirmed that a total of 55 gold bangles were recovered, weighing a combined total of 99 bhori 4 annas 5 ratti, or 1,158.33 grams.
