# BRAC University Volunteers Deliver Aid to Flood-Affected Matiranga in Khagrachhari

A team of volunteers from BRAC University has been actively engaged in relief and rehabilitation efforts in Matiranga, Khagrachhari, following recent flash floods and heavy monsoon rains. The team, led by a senior lecturer and comprising students from the Department of Disaster Management and Environmental Studies (DMES) under the Disaster Management and Climate Forum (DMCF), has been working to support the affected communities.

## Assessing Damage and Distributing Aid

Upon arriving in Guimara, Khagrachhari, the volunteer team visited several affected areas including Haridhan Mog para, Tapta Master Para, Kacha Kola, Ramdayal Para, Shapmara, and Wachu Para to assess the damage caused by the floods. They identified the relief needs of over 150 indigenous and local Bengali families who lost their homes and livelihoods.

The team distributed essential supplies such as 900 kg of rice, 300 leaves of paracetamol, 900 packets of saline, 150 liters of edible oil, 300 kg of onions, 75 kg of salt, 'Chira' (flattened rice), biscuits, oral saline, personal hygiene materials, and clothes. Each care package included 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of pulse, 250 g packet of 'Chira', two leaves of paracetamol tablets, six packets of oral saline, 1 liter of soybean oil, 2 kg of onion, and a 500gm packet of salt.

## Rebuilding and Support

On July 18, the packages were transported to distribution centers at Haridhan Mog Para, Shapmara Government Primary School, and Washu Para for distribution among the affected people. Additionally, the volunteers distributed corrugated iron sheets and materials to help those who lost their homes rebuild. They also provided assistance in constructing temporary shelters.
