# Blind Entrepreneur Shariful Islam Wins Praise for Eco-Friendly Notebooks and Pens

Shariful Islam, a 30-year-old visually impaired entrepreneur from Gaibandha, has earned widespread acclamation for his eco-friendly paper pens and notebooks. Despite being visually impaired since birth, Shariful skillfully produces each pen by hand, using only the touch of his hands. His venture not only provides him with a steady income but also promotes environmental sustainability.

Shariful's journey began in 2023 when his father's business suffered severe losses during the coronavirus pandemic, leaving the family in financial hardship. To cover his personal expenses, Shariful started making pens and notebooks with support from his university friends. His eco-friendly products quickly gained popularity among students, leading to an average monthly sale of 1,000 paper pens and 500 notebooks.

The notebooks are priced between Taka 20 and Taka 40, while each pen sells at Taka 10. Initially supplying to educational institutions, Shariful now rents a small shop at Pulbandi Bazar, where he promotes and sells his products. His success story is an inspiration, showcasing his determination and passion for education and entrepreneurship.

Shariful completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in 2015 and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in 2017 from Gaibandha Islamia High School and Gaibandha Government College, respectively. He earned his bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Chattogram in 2023 and a master’s degree in the same discipline in 2025. His friend Mizanur Rahman and college teacher Harun-or-Rashid have praised his resilience and contributions to the community.

Shariful aims to expand his enterprise with financial assistance. Gaibandha Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabuj Kumar Basak has assured government support to help improve his business. Shariful's initiative not only provides him with financial independence but also sets a positive example for others in Bangladesh, demonstrating the potential of turning adversity into opportunity through innovation and hard work.
