# BGB Seizes Indian Smuggled Goods Worth Tk 24.45 Lakh in Border Raids

In a series of anti-smuggling operations, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a significant haul of Indian smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 24.45 lakh in the border areas of Brahmanbaria and Cumilla districts. The operations, conducted by the Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB), targeted various border outposts based on specific intelligence. Items seized included basmati rice, chocolates, fireworks, e-rickshaws, puffed snacks, henna products, cattle, Johnson's baby lotion, liquor, and beer.

The raids were carried out by patrol teams from Moniand, Madla, and Khadla Border Outposts (BOPs) in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria, as well as Saldanadi, Shashidal, Shankuchail, and Barajwala BOPs in Brahmanpara, Burichang, and Adarsha Sadar upazilas of Cumilla. Lieutenant Colonel SM Shariful Islam, the Commanding Officer of Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB), personally supervised the operations.

According to a BGB press release, these operations are part of enhanced surveillance measures along the border, following directives from the Director General to strengthen security and prevent smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal crossings. The BGB has increased its intelligence-driven activities to effectively combat these illicit activities.

Smuggling across the Bangladesh-India border has been a persistent issue, with various goods being illegally transported across the frontier. The BGB's recent actions demonstrate a commitment to tackling this problem head-on, aiming to protect national security and economic interests.
