In a significant operation, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets valued at Tk 3.60 crore and arrested an alleged drug trafficker along the Ukhiya border in Cox's Bazar. A special patrol team from Balukhali Border Outpost (BOP) under Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) conducted the drive on Tuesday night in the Dakshin Rahmater Bil area, following intelligence inputs. The patrol team apprehended Md Manzur Ali, 40, who was attempting to smuggle the drugs from Myanmar into Bangladesh. A search of the suspect's sack revealed 12 cartons containing the Yaba tablets, concealed in khaki-coloured packets. During interrogation, Ali admitted to purchasing the tablets from across the Myanmar border for sale in Bangladesh. This operation underscores BGB's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking along the border, which poses a significant threat to national security and public health in Bangladesh.

Yaba, a methamphetamine-caffeine combination tablet, is a widely abused drug in the region, known for its highly addictive properties and severe health risks. The drug is often smuggled from Myanmar into Bangladesh, where it is sold at a higher price. The BGB's successful interception of this large consignment highlights the critical need for continued vigilance and cooperation between border security forces to tackle the illicit drug trade effectively.
