Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui today inspected remote border areas of Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) and inaugurated the newly-constructed Rahmatpur Border Outpost (BOP) under Ramgarh Battalion (43 BGB) in Fatikchhari upazila. The Rahmatpur border area is geographically and strategically important due to the Feni River basin and hilly terrain, according to a BGB release.

Speaking at the inauguration, the BGB chief highlighted that the new BOP would strengthen border security by increasing patrols and surveillance along the river and in the remote mountainous areas. This enhanced presence is expected to help control smuggling routes and prevent the trafficking of drugs, arms, and other illegal goods.

Following the inauguration, the BGB DG inspected Panchhari Battalion (3 BGB) and engaged in a video teleconference with personnel from various sectors, battalions, BOPs, and camps under the Chattogram Region. During this conference, he provided necessary directives on operational, training, and administrative activities.

The BGB DG also inspected Bogapara BOP under Jamini Para Battalion (23 BGB) and Rajnagar Battalion (37 BGB) under Rangamati Sector. During these visits, he discussed border security issues with the personnel and urged BGB members to remain professional and vigilant against smuggling, illegal infiltration, and push-ins.

The establishment of the Rahmatpur BOP is part of BGB’s ongoing efforts to enhance border security in strategically sensitive areas. The Feni River basin and the hilly terrain of the region make it a critical point for monitoring and controlling illegal activities. The new outpost is expected to provide better coverage and response capabilities in these challenging environments.

BGB’s operations in the Chattogram Hill Tracts are particularly significant given the region’s complex geography and history of insurgency and cross-border issues. The presence of a well-equipped and strategically placed BOP like Rahmatpur is crucial for maintaining stability and security in the area.

The inauguration of the Rahmatpur BOP and the DG’s inspections underscore BGB’s commitment to enhancing border security and operational efficiency. For Bangladesh, maintaining robust border security is essential not only for national safety but also for regional stability and the prevention of trans-border criminal activities.
