Acting on a tip-off, the Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) intercepted a motorcyclist near Munshipur BOP after he arrived from Karpasdanga Bazar around 11:40am. A search, conducted in the presence of local people, revealed the gold bars concealed in the folds of the suspect's lungi. The BGB also seized a button mobile phone and the suspect's DY-50 motorcycle. The seized gold bars, wrapped in tape, were estimated to be worth Tk 17,601,230. The detainee, identified as Md Mizanur Rahman, 61, son of late Soleman Molla from Pirpurkulla village under Damurhuda upazila, was handed over to Damurhuda Police Station for legal proceedings. The confiscated gold bars are in the process of being deposited with the Chuadanga Treasury Office. Gold smuggling remains a persistent issue along the Bangladesh-India border, driven by the significant price difference of gold between the two countries.
